Tagged image file format, are one of the most widely supported file formats for storing bit-mapped images on personal computers (Windows, Linux and Mac).

This class supports writing 1 bit, 4, 8, and 24 bit color, CMYK, black and white and grayscale Multipage and single page images. The supported compression types include TifPackbits, JPEG, and optimized LZW for color, Modified CCITT, and CCITT Group 3 and Group 4 Fax for monochrome images.

This class supports writing Tiff Version "7" TifJpeg compressed tiff files only as explained in Tiff Technical note #2. The earlier TifJpeg compressed tiff files as documented in Tiff Speficication Version 6.0 have been deprecated and are not supported.

Some monochrome images may look inverted compared to the XP Viewer. This is because the Windows XP previewer through SP2, does not follow the Tiff specification and honor the Photometric interpretation specified in the image file directory for the image. All images are treated as if they where Min as White or White pixels = 0 bits even if this is not true. This tag is honored for grayscale images. For maximum compatability we reccomend either not specifying the photometric interpretation, or setting it to MINISWHITE when saving monochrome images.

In order for an image to be saved in grayscale format it must have a ramped palette. A ramped palette is created when the ImageMan Palette is created using the GrayScale PaletteType:DTI::ImageMan::ImPalette::PaletteType:.

When using the ModifyBitDepth Command:DTI::ImageMan::Commands: set the Palette Option:DTI::ImageMan::Commands::ModifyBitDepthCommand: to Custom:DTI::ImageMan::Commands: and the Palette Property:DTI::ImageMan::Commands: to a new ImageMan Palette using the GrayScale PaletteType:DTI::ImageMan::ImPalette::PaletteType:.
